Min Yide’s Thirteen Rules of Nurturing Life - Part 1
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to this auspicious Course in the study of Daoist Qigong!
The Thirteen Rules of Nurturing Life (Part 1) is an ancient Daoist Qigong text which dates back hundreds of years.
In the nineteenth century, Daoist master Min Yide wrote a detailed commentary explaining many secrets hidden within the text, allowing us to see more deeply into the nature of Daoist Qigong and how at a high level it intersects with Internal Alchemy practice.
Thirteen Rules of Nurturing Life contains powerful and easy to perform postures, visualizations, and mental intention practices designed to first strengthen the Qi and blood of the body and then to fortify the original Essence, Energy and Spirit as well as soften and relax every tissue of the body.
Unlike most modern Qigong methods, this practice only has a few very subtle movements and is mostly based on the use of the mind to create powerful internal energy capable of healing the body and mind from inside out.
During this course we will present the first six rules of the text in order to help you build the most important foundations of practice, then in a future course we will build on those by adding the last six which begin to bridge the art of Daoist Qigong with Internal Alchemy Meditation.
What you will learn:
Nurture your brain and return the energy to your “water palace”,
How to circulate energy up your spine and complete the “microcosmic orbit”,
And how to use classical Daoist visualization and intention techniques to encourage the growth of Qi.

BIO
I am a secular Daoist practitioner and researcher and have spent nearly two decades studying Chinese energetic traditions including Daoism, Qigong, Internal Alchemy, the Internal Martial Arts, and Chinese Tea culture. I studied Chinese at East China Normal University and Daoist Scripture during a multi year apprenticeship with a secular disciple of Cao Zhenyang of the White Cloud Temple.
My main focus is on the Immortality Study Tradition of Daoism, a Modernist School which emphasizes meditation founded by Ancestral Teacher Chen Yingning during the mid Twentieth Century.
I also work as a translator and editor for Chinese Medicine World, the Magazine of the Ontario College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
« I have been studying with Robert for some time. Apart from the fact that it is a great chance to gain access to the Classic explanation, it is also an opportunity to deepen its practice in connection with these new understanding. »
Marie Rendeau
« Robert does a great job of focusing on the practical application of the materials offering both scholarly explanations from various Daoist texts and his practical experience to reinforce his interpretation of the texts. This is a great way to learn as you have the theory along with practical experience to back it up.
Robert also applies a secular, experience based approach to the materials which helps bring some of the more esoteric aspects of Daoism into the modern world with some suggestions on scientific reasons for the results of the practice. »
Martin Telford
